Together… we win!

Kom op tegen Kanker. Helden voor Helden. Belgian Paralympic Comitee. Hippotherapie Caballo. Stichting Emilie Leus. Think Pink. Hope For Turkey. And many more… All wonderful initiatives. Often, they were founded after a dramatic event and/or by people whose friends, relatives, colleagues… were affected by a serious illness, a disaster, or are struggling physically or mentally. All of them, recently united during an incredible afternoon at the Gantoise hockey field.

When sport and entrepreneurship are the motivating factors that bring people together to give their best for a noble cause, it leads to wonderful, moving moments. And, admittedly, even though one winning team from this tournament was celebrated at the end of the day, even though all these young people distinguished themselves with a healthy, competitive spirit, there was an overall feeling that we were all winners that day.

Winning, not at the expense of another, but for a team, a good cause and for humanity. Seeing the different organisations fraternising with each other next to the pitch also gives an incredibly good feeling. A boost that tastes even better when one sees and hears how negatively current news is often reported.

“Winning together” is a motto that is true for most Interim Managers. They know that their mission can only be brought to fruition if they benefit the company and its team they come to join temporarily. They do not prioritize their own glory. They know that the next exciting assignment means a sign of confidence, a proof of appreciation of their talent.

Mental coaching

Of course, no mission can be taken for granted. Being able to adapt to a given context, to not be thrown off guard by suspicious eyes, to make a mark without being omnipresent is not so obvious. A good dose of mental toughness certainly comes in handy to give one’s best in a strange corporate culture. Maureen Beernaert knows that very well, she also knows as an international hockey player and clinical psychologist today, how to strengthen yourself mentally to push your limits and get closer to who you want to be, in and beyond work. That is why we are very happy to have her speak in this TIP-IM.

This TIP-IM surprisingly is all about sports… Therefore, we thought it could be interesting to associate Interim Management with a certain type of sport. We could of course have chosen hockey but took the lead by picturing another, incredible team sport, rugby, by our cartoonist. 2023 is a World Cup year for rugby. A sport in which etic values and resolutely positive refereeing also ensure that, with respect for the other spectator in the stands, the performances of players who manage to link speed, intelligence and strength are watched with admiration. In which whistling out is not part of the tradition, encouraging the more so. The game “only” lasts 80 minutes but the intensity is immense.

This is perhaps why rugby is a particularly modern sport today, just as Interim Management is a particularly modern form of building a successful professional career.
